Field Trips
USAC organizes field trips each semester in and around Torino, which are included in the program fees. The exact dates and sites may change at the discretion of the Resident Director. Examples may include:
Milan
Visit this center for fashion and finance, and home to Leonardo's Last Supper-- just a short train ride from Torino.
National Cinema Museum
Learn about the history of film while exploring the Mole tower, symbol of the city. Don't miss the chance to ride the glass elevator to the top for an impressive view over the city.
Rivoli Castle
This ancient castle, once belonging to the Savoy royal family, now houses one of the most respected contemporary art museums in the world.
San Michele Monastery
Get ready to hike! Built on top of a mountain in the 10th century, this shrine provides spectacular views overlooking the city, valley, and Alps bordering France.
Superga Basilica
Overlooking Torino, this church houses the tombs of the Savoy royal family. We arrive by cable car to a perfect picture-taking spot!
Optional Overnight Field Trips
In addition to the program-organized outings to historical, artistic and business-related sites in and around Torino, at least two optional overnight trips are scheduled for the academic year. The Resident Director determines the exact dates and fees.
USAC encourages every student to participate on the overnight trips. However, there is an additional fee. Detailed tour information will be provided upon arrival in Italy. Suggested tours include:
Italian Riviera (Fall semester)
A visit to the most scenic parts of the Italian Riviera:
Starting in Genova, home to Christopher Columbus and a unique combination of historic and contemporary architecture (including some famous works by Renzo Piano), we will head south to Santa Margherita and Portofino. The crescent-shaped coastal strip with its palm-lined boulevards and clear turquoise water has enchanting fishing villages and resorts dotting its rocky coastline. Try the local specialties like focaccia bread and pesto sauce. Cinque Terre is a short train ride away.
Veneto (Spring semester)
Veneto is a fascinating northern region bordering on the Adriatic Sea. Visit Verona, one of Italy's most charming and historical cities, and the legendary home of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. A quick train ride from there and you can step out onto the glorious canals of Venice.
