French Studies

Elective Courses

The elective courses listed below are designed to familiarize you with the region and help complete requirements for other disciplines. Courses taught in French are appropriate for advanced students and above, and courses taught in English are appropriate for all students. You are required to enroll in 3-6 credit hours of elective courses.

Fall Semester

  • Art History I - Europe (ART, 3 credits, 200-level, taught in French)
  • Business French (FLL, 3 credits, 400/600-level, taught in French) Prerequisite: six semesters of college French.
  • Contemporary French Culture and Civilization (FLL, 3 credits, 200-level, taught in English)
  • Ecrire avec la Lumière/Writing with Light (ART/Photography, 3 credits, 100-level, taught in French)
  • Government and Politics in France (PSC, 3 credits, 400/600 level, taught in English)
  • Survey of French Literature I (FLL, 3 credits, 300-level, taught in French) Prerequisite: four semesters of college French.

Spring Semester

  • Art History II - Europe (ART, 3 credits, 200-level, taught in French)
  • Business French (FLL, 3 credits, 400/600-level, taught in French) Prerequisite: six semesters of college French.
  • Contemporary French Culture and Civilization (FLL, 3 credits, 200-level, taught in English)
  • Internship (Independent Study, up to three credits, taught in French)
  • Survey of French Literature II (FLL, 3 credits, 300-level, taught in French) Prerequisite: four semesters of college French.
