Viterbo provides students with an exciting setting from which to gain a working knowledge of the Italian language and to experience its rich culture away from English-speaking tourist areas. The semester Viterbo program combines academic coursework with an integrated cultural experience. The program offers two distinct optional tours: fall students travel to the heart of Italy through Tuscany and Florence and spring students travel through Naples, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. Participation in various local field trips, festivals and activities supplement these exciting tour options. Previous students have reported that the yearlong program was especially helpful in terms of language study and integration in the culture. However, you may choose to attend fall or spring semester only. (Please request a summer catalog if you are also interested in the USAC Italy summer programs.)
Dr. Alyssa Nota, a United States native, oversees both Italy programs. Alyssa earned degrees in Italian, English and Instruction and Administration, including a Ph.D. from Boston College. The Viterbo Resident Director, Stefano Pizzetti, a Torino native fluent in Italian, English, Spanish and French, manages the on-site office operations. Stefano and his staff will meet the group flight at the airport, provide an on-site orientation and take you to your program housing. Stefano has experience studying and living abroad and will provide knowledgeable assistance during your stay in Italy.
