The Program
The Utrecht program offers students the opportunity to enroll in a broad range of courses in a variety of disciplines. Utrecht University is particularly well-known and respected for its Science faculties and research. Courses available to students are taught in English and include the following Faculties: Art, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geosciences, Law, Social Science and Economics. Part of the program that is highly recommended is that students take the Boswell Dutch Welcome course in order to have basic communicative skills. Students at higher levels also have the opportunity to take a more intensive Dutch language course while studying at Utrecht.
The academic year runs from September to July and is divided into two 20 weeklong semesters with both semesters divided in 2 blocks. Fall semester block 1 runs September to mid-November and block 2 mid-November to early February. Students unable to stay until the February end date for block 2 will not be able to enroll in block 2 courses. We recommend taking two courses during block 1 with additional individual studies and/or a Dutch language course. Spring semester block 3 runs February to mid-April and block 4 mid-April to July. Students may choose one semester or the yearlong program.
The Utrecht program has a Program Coordinator who is responsible for the overall operations of the program abroad: securing appropriate student housing, hiring outstanding faculty, and overseeing the students' well being.
Mariëlle Hoff is the Program Coordinator for the Utrecht program. She and her staff will arrange your housing, assist you with registration and provide an on-site orientation.
