Prague program is ideal for those who wish to combine academic coursework with the experience of living in an extraordinary medieval city. Prague is an open textbook of modern and traditional literature, art, and culture surrounded by the remarkable architecture of its walls, castles, and frescoes. Students may enroll for one or two semesters and will learn the basics of the Czech language in a two-week Czech Intensive course offered at the beginning of each semester. Each semester also includes two one-day field trips and an optional one-credit Vienna and Budapest Field Study course. Yearlong students experience all four seasons that are typical for Central Europe - colorful fall with harvest festivals; quiet winter with customs and winter sports; fresh spring with blossoming flowers filling Prague's parks; and warm summer with outdoor festivals. The academic courses are only part of the intended value of a semester or year abroad. Participation in formal and informal activities, such as field trips to local castles and historical sites, form an integral part of the program. Local professors will guide you through the cultural and historical richness of Prague and Central Europe. The Prague program has a Resident Director who is responsible for the overall operations of the program abroad: securing appropriate student housing, hiring outstanding faculty, organizing exciting field trips and optional tours, and overseeing the students' well being. Jan Stodola, a Prague native, is the Resident Director for the Czech Republic program. Fluent in Czech and English, Jan will meet the group flight at the airport and provide an on-site orientation. Jan provides additional assistance and resources as needed. (top)
