Regardless of the term you choose, your coursework will be supplemented with experiences such as field trips, museum visits, and seminars on location. Since many Dutch citizens are both fluent in English and extremely welcoming, connecting with locals couldn’t be easier. A wide range of disciplines are offered at Maastricht University – including art, business, economics, environmental and sustainability studies, history, international relations, law, literature, medicine, neuroscience, nutrition, political science, psychology, public health, sociology, and more. The university also offers several courses each term focused on Dutch and European studies. You may choose to participate in the summer session, a single fall or spring semester, or a full academic year.

One of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, Maastricht boasts picturesque architecture, medieval city walls, cobblestone alleys and streets, seventeenth-century facades, and a Roman bridge. Maastricht is conveniently located in the heart of Europe, with major capitals such as Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and London only a short train ride away. However, once you arrive in Maastricht, you may not want to leave—with a historic city center; countless sidewalk cafés, pubs, and restaurants; sports facilities; shops; and numerous film, music, and theatre venues, Maastricht has everything a student could wish for!

There are several excellent reasons for deciding to study in the Netherlands. Courses at European universities are taught by professors who do almost all the teaching and seminar work with undergraduates while maintaining a high level of research activity. Although English is widely spoken throughout the region, the Netherlands has maintained its own diverse traditions, values, and views of the world. Time in Maastricht will challenge you personally, open your eyes to different ways of looking at the current topics in our world, and enable you to experience European culture and history.
