I really liked learning the tin whistle because it is quite different from how we learn music in the States and it was nice to get a feel for how traditional Irish musicians learn their craft.

Field Trips for Galway, Ireland

The program field trips are an integral part of the program's intellectual and cultural experience and are included in the program fee. These excursions include an outing to the Gaelic-speaking Aran Islands with their sweeping cliffs, ancient forts, and vibrant folk culture and a tour of the rugged western landscapes of Connemara, whose mountains, valleys, and lakes and its haunting history of the 1840s Irish Famine make it one of the most beautiful and powerfully affecting landscapes in Europe. Dates and locations may change at the discretion of the Resident Director. In addition to these field trips, the individual courses have field trips, performances, screenings or outings built in to complement what you explore in class. These, too, are also included.
