Field Trips for La Habana, Cuba

You are encouraged to participate in the included program field trips. In addition to the including program field trips, you'll also have field trips as part of many of your courses and have numerous informal activities that expose you to the local culture as well.

The programmed field trips and activities are an integral part of the intellectual and cultural experience and are included in the program fees. These excursions include walking tours, museum visits, and guest lectures coupled with cultural activities and meals to provide you the opportunity to interact with Cubans and learn firsthand their perspective of our common histories. Individual courses have field trips, performances, or outings built in to complement what you explore in class. These, too, are also included.

Dates and exact locations are at the discretion of the Resident Director and they vary. Common destinations may include the following.

Day Trip to Tobacco Museum in La Habana

The tobacco-growing regions of Cuba are among the finest tobacco growing areas in the world. In this visit to a tobacco factory, you will learn more about one of Cuba’s most famous products.

Overnight Trip to Varadero Beach

Varadero Beach is a popular resort town in the province of Matanzas, making it an ideal location to consider the tourist economies of Cuba in the past, present, and future (and enjoy the beach!). It is one of the largest resort areas in the Caribbean, with over 20 km of white sandy beaches. Transportation, accommodation and breakfast are included in the program fees for this trip.

Day Trip to University of Havana

The USAC La Habana program is hosted by the Casa de Africa, a research institution of Universidad de San Gerónimo, a satellite campus of Universidad de La Habana (University of Havana). You'll also have a chance to visit the main campus of the University.
